AKOLA: The local court in Akola has given life term to one person in a case of murder which took place one-and-half year ago. Bhaskar Bhivaji Tayde (45) has been sentenced to life imprisonment under Section 302 (murder) of Indian Penal Code 1860 for killing Rameshwar Dashrath Ingle of village Borgaon Ninghot in Akola district. Handing down the sentence on Monday evening, additional sessions judge Shalini Gaikwad also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on the other accused namely Bharat Atmaram Tayde, Parvati Bharat Tayde and Kusum Bhaskar Tayde giving them benefit of doubts.
Other three accused Ravi Bhaskar Tayde, Sushma Bhaskar Tayde and Vishakha Tayde are the juveniles and therefore the trial against them is pending in juvenile court here. Prosecutor Vinod Fate told the court that on April 14, 2008 (on the day of Dr Ambedkar Jayanti) at village Borgaon Ninghot the accused persons attacked Rameshwar Ingle with sharp weaons (tikas) while the other accused kicked him. A seriously injured Rameshwar was later declared dead in Murtizapur sub district hospital. Offences were registered against the accused under Section 147, 148, 149, 302 and 448 of IPC. In all nine witnesses were examined. Two of them turned hostile to the prosecution. Dispute over a compound wall is stated to be the motive behind the murder.
Couple consigned to flame on same pyre: In a rarest of the rare incident, the mortal remains of a deceased couple were consigned to flames on the same pyre at village Medshi in Washim district 3 days ago, according to family sources. Sampatrao Bhaguji Chaudhri (81) died a natural death on September 10 at his residence at Medshi. His 75-year-old grief stricken wife Geeta Chaudhri embraced the body of her husband and fell unconscious. Her son tried to separate her from the body but she was collapsed. The funeral of the couple was jointly taken and their mortal remains were consigned to flame on the same pyre in the presence of hundreds of villagers.
Farmer ends life: Waman Namdeo Chabile, a farmer Takli Chabile village under Piniar police station in Akola district committed suicide by hanging himself to a mango tree on Sunday, the police said. Failure of crops and increasing loan burden are suspected to be the reason for his suicide, sources said.
